St Silas'

Wyena, meaning "small timber" in the Aboriginal language, is a rural settlement located in Tasmania, 27 kilometers west of Scottsdale and 15 kilometers north-east of Lilydale.

In 1889, the opening of a new railway siding on the Scottsdale line was announced and named Wyena by the General Manager of the Government Railways.

The Church of England at Wyena was built of timber by local volunteers, costing £10 and was dedicated by Bishop Montgomery in 1895. St. Silas parish was administered by St George's, Invermay and Lilydale parishes. An article in The Tasmanian newspaper from 04 May 1895 reported a magic lantern lecture in aid of improvements to the Wyena Church of England, suggesting that the church may have been built earlier than 1895.

In October 1921, funds were once again needed to repair and improve the church.

According to Dorothea Henslowe's book "Our Heritage of Anglican Churches in Tasmania", the church building was eventually pulled down and the timber was sold as the church had not been used for many years. This happened around 1956.
