St Thomas Mores'

A large crowd was in attendance at the opening of St. Thomas More by Monsignor Monaghan on the 14th March 1937. Monsignor Monaghan explained the naming of the church was to the great chancellor in the reign of Henry VIII St Thomas More, who would watch over them.

The original idea was to build a wooden, church which could be used as a hall later, it was discovered the cost of wood was too high so brick was used instead. The cost was £2,135-3-3 for the church and outbuildings. Additional fees were £482-2 for the architect's fees, furnishings and the brick fence. An added cost of land made the total outlay £5,713-10-4 spent at Newstead, this was included in the parish of Launceston, with the total debt of £3,862-13-5.

This building is now used as a hall.
