Overview

The Church of the Good Shepherd, Chudleigh opened for public worship by the Bishop of Tasmania on the 1st March 1868.

At the Diocesan Synod held in November 1888 it was reported that the Chudleigh church has been improved.

Dorothea Henslowe writes

In 1880 a poor carpenter, Hugh Miles, built, without charge a new church which was consecrated in November 1895.

The above statement has not been proven, but Bishop Montgomery did visit the Chudleigh church on 6th November 1895 for the purpose of confirmation and consecration of the Anglican Burial Ground.

A centenary Service was held on 24th April 1965, by 1979 declining numbers a final meeting was held on the 12th December of that year.

In May of the year 1991, Richardson and Wrench Real Estate issued an advertisement inviting individuals to visit the Chudleigh Church, a venerable edifice located a mere ten minutes from Mole Creek. This centenarian structure, having withstood the test of time for a full century, had been meticulously transformed into a two-storey dwelling, boasting four commodious bedrooms.
