Overview

The first church was built at a cost of £280, this was a Union church used by all denominations and was also a state school. Mr. Ernest Whitefield reported that the Anglicans took over the Union Church in 1883. This building was moved to its present site then renovated and used as the parish hall and Sunday school.

The foundation stone for new Christ Church was laid in April 1937 by the Governor Sir Ernest Clark. The church was dedicated by Dr. R. Snowden in September the same year. Built from concrete the architects were East and Smith, the cost was £1000. The church has six large and two smaller stained glass windows. The altar was a gift sent from India by former rector Rev. A. France.

Christ Church was consecrated in October 1946 by the Bishop of Tasmania Rt. Rev. G.F. Cranswick.
