Overview

A portion of the township was reserved for the site of the church in 1865, but was not built until 1888.

Built of weatherboards with an iron roof the Church of the Holy Cross at Mangana was started in 1887. Newspapers report that the building was near completion in June 1888 and took about 6 months to complete.

The Mercury newspaper states that the 50th anniversary was celebrated on the 3rd May 1938 and that it opened and dedicated May 1888. The Anglican church records state it was consecrated in February 1888.

This church was still in use up until 1968. On our visit in September 2000 the building was a private residence.
