Overview
More than sixty years ago, the inaugural Anglican services were held in Weegena. However, owing to a reduction in population, these services eventually came to an end. Subsequently, in approximately 1960, a passionate group of Anglicans residing in the area approached the Deloraine Rector with a request for a monthly Communion Service to be conducted in the nearby hall.
On the 3rd March 1963, a congregation of nearly 150 people assembled at the Weegena Hall to observe the Assistant Bishop of Tasmania, Bishop W.R. Barrett, dedicate an altar and credence table crafted from blackwood and donated by members of the nearby church community.
The altar, which featured elegant panels, was designed to facilitate the detachment of its tabletop, as well as the folding of its sides on hinges located at the forefront of the altar, this enables the altar to be packed away into a small space. T.H. Roper and Son were the skilled artisans behind the production of the new furnishings.
