Overview

An earlier Church was built at Cressy between 1834-1844, a drawing of this church is attributed to Emily Stuart Bowring (see No 1519).

The present church cost £434-4-6 to build, with the assistance of public subscription and Mr. J.D. Toosey who paid the largest part. It was started in 1857 and was consecrated on the 19th May of 1858 by the Bishop of Tasmania.

The architects were North and Dunning, with most of the brick and wood work carried out by hard working parishioners. The bell was originally cast for and used by the East India clipper, it was given to the church by the East India Company.

Over the years many alterations and extensions have taken place.

This church is still in use today and was removed from the Anglican churches for sale list in December 2018.
