Sacred Heart

After the destruction of St Martin's church in 1890 the local State School was used for services until 1899.

Land in Charles Street was purchased for the erection of a new church and advertisements were placed in December 1903 newspapers calling for tenders. There is some confusion over whether the Pinega Road church was moved or if some materials from a church at Maurice were used in the construction. The following Daily Telegraph notice on the 5th December 1903 may indicate neither were used.

TENDERS

Tenders will be received by the undersigned up to MONDAY, December 14 , 1903 for the Erection of Catholic Church at Ringarooma. The successful tenderer will be required to take over at cost price about eight thousand feet of sawn timber, already delivered on site.

Each tenderer to state time required to complete building. A deposit of two pounds ten shillings to accompany each tender,

It is unknown when name of the church was changed to Sacred Heart, newspapers in 1906 were still referring to it as St Martin's

On opening and consecration of the new church took place in July 1904 by the Right Rev. Monsignor Beechinor, Dean of Launceston.
