St Paul's

Between 1891 and 1893, a series of events were held in Derby, Tasmania, to raise funds for the construction of an English church. In October 1892, Corrie and North, architects from Launceston, issued a call for tenders for the project. The structure, known as St Paul’s, was designed as a modest weatherboard church with a gabled roof clad in corrugated iron. By late March 1893, a report from 'Our Travelling Correspondent' indicated that the new Anglican church was nearing completion under the workmanship of Mr. Willis, a contractor from Scottsdale. The building’s cost totaled £330, although the official title for the property was not granted until 8 February 1902.

The Launceston Examiner provided an account of a fundraising bazaar in October 1893:

"A BAZAAR in aid of the Anglican Church at Derby is to be opened to-day; and will be open again tomorrow and Saturday."

St Paul’s Anglican Church is recognized on the Tasmanian Heritage Register for its historic and architectural value, exemplifying the principal characteristics of a Federation Carpenter Gothic ecclesiastical structure in weatherboard.

This church was included on the Anglican rationalisation list and was advertised for sale between 2011 and 2021. By 2024, it had been repurposed as St Paul’s Cottage Accommodation.
