Waratah Methodist Church

The Launceston Examiner January 1880, under the Wesleyan Church titled Northern Finance Committee reported a resolution had been passed that only £18 was available towards the building of a church at Waratah, Mount Bischoff. The church opened in 1880, the first appointed minister was Daniel A. Gilsenan. In March 1882 Rev. Gilsenan gave his farewell sermon before his departure for Victoria.

Rev. Samuel Harris was the Wesleyan minister in September 1883, he was reported as being 'much liked by the people, and deservedly so.' Walch's Tasmanian Almanac of 1899 shows the Wesleyan's at Mount Bischoff were under a 'Home Missionary.' In January 1902 the five Methodist denominations: Primitive, Wesleyan, United Free, Bible Christian Church and the Methodist New Conexion formed the Methodist Church of Australia. This building was re-erected at Upper Burnie.
