Zeehan Methodist Church

A small wooden building was erected in 1890. With the mining boom the population increased and a larger church was built and opened in 1898, it had the capacity to seat 500 people.

This church was of Gothic design. It had a large porch and three entrances. The building was 65 x 33 feet, with the height inside from floor the ceiling measuring 28 feet. The architects were Messrs. A. & S. Luttrell and the contractor was Mr. James Wilson. Mr. George Wilson was the painter and decorator. A variety of timbers including Oregon, Tasmanian Oak, blackwood and Californian redwood were used in the construction.

Following serious mining difficulties in 1907 the district struggled and the population declined. The church struggled on but with the decrease in numbers the building was too large and fell into disrepair. About 1954 smaller chapel was built and the old building was demolished.

Services were discontinued at the end of 1974.
