Overview

In May 1935 the new Anglican church at Fitzgerald was under construction, this building replaced the little wooden one destroyed by bush fires in 1934. Mary Pitfield donated the land and Mr. George Roberts constructed the new church, it was completed in 1936.

Fitzgerald's population declined while Maydena's, 20kms away expanded with the logging by the Australian Newsprint Mills. It was decided that the church would be moved to the 'people'.

Using volunteer labour the church was loaded onto a sledge and pulled by a bulldozer along a firebreak to the railway line and to its new home at Maydena.
