St Anne's

In 1868, the Church of England newspaper Church News reported that a Chapel‑of‑Ease was being built at Shepton Montacute, Constitution Hill, at an estimated cost of about £300.

A fundraising bazaar to support repairs to St Mary’s at Kempton, as well as the completion of St Anne’s, was held on 6th –7th October 1870.

In March 1871, tenders were called for the completion of the church’s woodwork.

The church was designed by English-born architect Francis Butler. Built in the Gothic style from sandstone, it contained two very small rooms. It was officially opened on 9th June 1872 by the Bishop of Tasmania, Charles Bromby.

In April 1876, Bishop Bromby returned to consecrate St Anne’s (also known as St Ann’s) at Constitution Hill. After the service, everyone was invited to enjoy a picnic luncheon.

The former St Anne's Anglican Church, Dysart, is significant as demonstrating the principal features. Its cemetery also has research potential, and the place is likely to have spiritual significance for the

Anglican community and as a religious and townscape landmark. ... It has the ability to demonstrate the principal characteristics of a sandstone

Victorian Academic Gothic church building. These characteristics are revealed by the sandstone masonry, the

parapeted and buttressed gabled roof, the entrance porch with arched door and the lancet windows.

The church became part of the National Redress Scheme and was listed for sale in both 2009 and 2010. It was finally sold in November 2010 and has since been converted into a private residence.
