Overview

Our Lady Help of Christians Church at Elizabeth Town was opened on the 22nd January 1939. It was blessed and dedicated by the Archbishop of Hobart the Most Rev. J.D. Simmons.

The church was constructed of brick and is of modern design, with a tiled roof. The designers were Messrs. Smith, East and Willing of Launceston and built by Ray and Max Watts of Deloraine. The church measures 45 feet in length and 20 feet wide, it has a chancel, nave and sacristy. The nave is 32 feet by 20 feet.

The Archbishop said it was a pleasure to be present and to bless and de
dicate a beautiful church that was a
credit to Elizabeth Town and to the
whole diocese. He congratulated the
designers and contractors on their excellent work, and paid tribute to
the splendid work performed by Mon
signor Monaghan, of Deloraine, who
had made the building of the church
possible.
"Such a
church," he added, "will
help to combat the anti-Christian
forces in evidence in all parts of the
world."

This church is now a private residence.
