Overview

The Church of St Mary was a small wooden structure built by Michael Cullinane and opened on the 30th January 1859 by Bishop Wilson. The Hobart Town Daily Mercury reported the following:

... The little church was densely crowed in every part. There were between 250 and 300 persons present , all of whom seemed to listen with breathless attention to His Lordship's discourse in which he dwelt most strongly in the evils of intemperance.

The collection raised after the sermon was a significant sum of £78. The church was described as chaste and simple, it measured 40ft long and 20ft wide, and at one end was a beautiful bell turret. The little church had fine Gothic windows at the east end.

In 1899 the structure was demolished and was used in the erection of a private home at St Marys.
